Playing without a second profession
Has anyone tried it? I'm currently trying this out. Y'see, I started a Nightfall character and did all the quests up 'till "Secondary Training". Then I went to Lion's Arch, then from LA I went to Kaineng and bought max armor using the money/materials from my storage.
If I'm correct, doing quests in the two campaigns will allow me to reach level 20 without a second profession. I'm also hoping to be able to finish the Nightfall campaign, but I doubt it's possible. My character is currently level 7. Wish me luck. :P |

You can easily go without a second profession for as long as you like, but a secondary helps, depending on the class though. My once-guild leader had a Ritualist with no secondary for a very long time, with Protector of Tyria, 15k armor, and he was a staple of our FoW/UW teams. Which class are you?

you will need secondary to complete the campaign you started in because there will be a primary quest you have to complete to continue in the game

When I first started (over a year 1/2 ago) I played through most of Prophercies without even using my second profession skills.
Nearly 2 years on and I still dont much. I might add the odd mesma skill in to echo, monk still to res or heal, or try some wacky build in FA, but 95% of the time I use my main profession skills only. You probably meant playing without even choosing a second profession, but its the same kind of. [edit] Actually I just realised.... thats why my "profession" on my profile says "E/?" with no defined secondary. I change it so much because I only ever use 1 secondary skill most times, if at all. I only use secondary profession skills for specific and rare challenges, but most the time I find that a primary profession with a good library of collected skills can cope just fine.
But, as Freek said, you are required to choose a secondary but you are not required to use secondary skills. |

When I play PvP, I usually forget to select a secondary skill. And if I do select one, I just take one to confuse people. Rt/A for a healing rit for example, ppl expect a Spirit Strength assasin and stay away from you, or cast Empathy and stuff.
Anyway, usually 1 class only characters have really strong skills, since they just lean on their primary profession and dont waste attribute points. My ranger only uses his /Mo for ressurection, as most of my /Mo builds. |

I see where you are coming from...
Yeah, with Nightfall being the way it is, you can potentially finish Prophecies and Factions single classed. Start in Nightfall don't pick a secondary do everything you can until you hit that quest wall, get a runner to take you to the other campaigns and keep going. You will need to pick a secondary for nightfall however. The gate on the Docks mission will bump you from continuing. |

First off, he's a Ranger. R/. That's it. :P
Second off, after getting ran to Ascalon, it seems I'm allowed to do "The Great Northern Wall" mission. This is great--I'm level 7, a good level for it. |

I just noticed that today. >_>
Oh well. Maximum armor, no XP reward...I'll have to get my XP from killing enemies instead. |
